In this episode, Rob and Don explore the possibilities of sound by talking with voice actress Kimlinh Tran about her experiences and perspectives gained voice acting in anime and video games. They talk about her efforts to improve her craft, why being near entertainment production centers is a must, and why recording walla is so much fun. All this, and why having a voice acting safe word is a must, are waiting for you in this episode of the Department of Nerdly Affairs.

That was a good interview, except that you really dropped the ball in one respect. You never asked Kimlinh to use any of her character voices…? How could you not do this? Oooooooooh, the humanity. I would like to have heard a demonstration of her skills, and maybe meet some of her characters (including Fidget and Rarity).
I’ve seen numerous interviews with Mel Blanc (the man with 1,000 voices), and the interviewers would always say things like, “Hello, Bugs! Are you there?,” and Mel would say, “What’s up, Doc?” in his New York accented “Bugs Bunny” nasal twang. And then, “Marvin, did you really want to blow up the Earth…? ,” and Mel would say, “There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering Kaboom…! What happened to the Earth shattering Kaboom…?” as Marvin the Martian.
Heck, you could do part of the show interviewing “Fidget” or “Rarity.”
So, you’ll have to have Kimlinh come back for an encore interview.
D’oh! You’re right, Jeff! We should have had her do some demonstrations. It just never occurred to us.
Definitely a good excuse to have her on again! Glad you enjoyed the interview. 🙂
Hmmmm….
Y’know…. that IS a nifty idea. I’d be a bit leary of suggesting it myself, ‘cos I don’t know how the companies holding the rights to those characters would feel about it . I’ve seen some of those interviews with Mel Blanc, and I suspect he had more leeway since back then I believe (according to this reliable source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWtOkO-UmuU ) Mel would have been owned by the studio.
I’d also be a little scared, since she’s one of the most relentlessly cheerful and upbeat people I’ve ever met…. what would happen if we opened the gates?
